Clayton Geathers
First up for me is Clayton Geathers. Geathers should come very cheap since he has had a bad history with injuries. That said, the last two years have been better for Geathers. He started in 10 games in 2019 and 12 in 2018. He is not a ball hawk but plays better in a more traditional strong safety role.
In 2019, Geathers recorded 54 combined tackles and his first career interception. Geathers had his best season in 2018 when he started 12 games. He finished with 89 combined tackles (61 solos and 28 assists). He struggled mightily against the pass last year though. He allowed three touchdowns and a 128.1 quarterback rating while being targeted.
Why would I be interested in adding him then? Well, first of all I would not just give Geathers the starting spot. Bush would get the first crack, but I would feel better about the depth at the position with Geathers on the roster. With an inexpensive contract on another one-year, prove-it deal, I would be happy if Ryan Pace brought Geathers in. He would not be my first choice, but he would definitely be a guy I would consider.
If Ryan Pace were to add this next player, I would be even more excited though.
