3. Damien Lewis, LSU
Chicago Bears would love what Damien Lewis brings to the table. Lewis was a Community College transfer who started his final two seasons with LSU at right guard. Lewis a but shorty, and is squatty, but he packs his weight in thick.
He uses that weight to his advantage too. This is the definition of a nasty run blocker. Lewis is powerful, he explodes off of the ball with a purpose, and he finishes every block. Speed is an issue for him, and he is much better moving downhill than he does dropping into his pass sets. Still, if the Bears want to add a true impact guard to the run game, they need to find a way to add Lewis.
Here is what NFL.com has to say.
"The run-blocking tape shows a forklift dressed as a right guard with the power and leverage to move some of the best interior defenders in the conference. The pass-blocking tape shows a heavy-footed guard who lacks length and lateral quickness to hold up if asked to block on an island."
That does sum things up pretty well for what Lewis has to offer. Lewis is projected to be drafted in the third round. Would the Bears reach for him at 50? Would they trade down and use their extra pick on Lewis?
The logistics of finding the perfect time to draft Lewis is what puts him at number three, but this is a great fit.
