One of Jacob Eason or Jake Fromm – QBs

If you were watching the NFL Draft coverage as the third round was starting to come to an end, you saw Jake Fromm and Jacob Eason waiting for their names to be called. Eason had a second-round draft grade by many analysts and you could see how irritated he was that his name had yet to be called. Fromm who has a third or fourth-round draft grade by many seemed less irritated, but I am sure he is anxious to receive that phone call.

Taking one of these two at No. 163 goes against the idea of grabbing a player who will make an immediate impact on a team that is clearly pushing to win now more than in the future. Either Eason or Fromm at No. 163 would easily be a pick for the future. As much as I did not expect them to draft a quarterback in this draft (or at least not before pick 200), if either of these two falls to them in fifth, Pace must take one if you believe in the “best player available” philosophy.

Eason is more of a gunslinging, big-arm quarterback compared to Fromm. Fromm is a methodical passer who leans more on his quarterback smarts than his actual arm strength. Both would be an immediate upgrade over Tyler Bray and should bump Bray from the team. If either of these two is drafted (or Anthony Gordon for that matter), the Chicago Bears would need to hold onto three quarterbacks on their roster. The practice squad would not be an option.
