Jimmy Graham “U” and Cole Kmet “Y”

When we look at Matt Nagy’s offense, he relies heavily on the tight end position. Prior to this season, the idea was to have Trey Burton play the “U” (move) tight end and have Adam Shaheen play the “Y” (inline) tight end. The problem is, Adam Shaheen has been a bust and well, Burton was only good for about half a season.

In steps Jimmy Graham. Graham was brought in to replace Trey Burton. For those of you concerned about him not living up to expectations, you can stop worrying. Graham has been healthy which is ideal compared to what the team has seen in the past. Graham has not missed a game in four years. This alone has to keep Matt Nagy and Ryan Pace happy.

Beyond Graham, the new addition of second-round draft pick Cole Kmet makes this team stronger too. We have been clamoring for the Chicago Bears to improve the tight end position. We know how much the position means to Matt Nagy’s offense. Using the 43rd overall pick might have been too high for Cole Kmet, but with how important the position is and how highly Nagy thought of Kmet, Pace needed to lock in his guy.

With the combination of Graham and Kmet, the offense has improved and we should expect to see better results in 2020 no matter who is throwing the football.
