The Chicago Bears confuse fans when they don’t do things the way they expect.

The Chicago Bears signed newly released free safety Tashaun Gipson. In all honesty, Chicago Bears fans need to learn the team’s positions on offense and defense. Many have been confusing the tight end position. Most felt drafting Cole Kmet was a waste because the Chicago Bears already had nine tight ends on the roster. Most of the tight ends on the Chicago Bears roster are U tight ends.

Anywho, the safety position seems to be commonly confused by most Chicago Bears fans.  Adrian Amos was drafted from Penn Stats as the 142nd overall pick. He was known as an instinctive free safety that had a fair amount of range despite a slower 40-yard dash time.

Amos’s weaknesses were that he didn’t display urgency when supporting the run, took awful angels to tackle when lined up in the box, and launched his body too often at runners in an attempt to tackle them.

Amos developed into a great run defender right away his rookie year. He had an 80.8 PFF run-defense grade but only a 61.4 coverage grade. Amos worked on his coverage in 2016 and brought it up to a grade of 70.3. His run defense grade dropped to a 76.6. The Chicago Bears front office and coaching staff stressed how they need a dynamic safety on the roster.

Looking for a game-changer at safety, the Chicago Bears scouted Jamal Adams in 2017 but passed on him to draft Mitchell Trubisky. The Chicago Bears, before the 2017 NFL draft, signed Quintin Demps to a three-year deal that was overlooked because of the Mike Glennon signing.

Demps was a rising star that had a late blossom to his stardom in the NFL. According to PFF, Demps was the 12th highest graded safety the season before he signed with the Chicago Bears. Demps had shown in previous years in a backup role that he deserved to become a starter and that he is a game-changer. Unfortunately for Demps, 2017 was the last season he would ever play football in again.
