With Mitchell Trubisky’s fifth-year option officially declined, it seems like a foregone conclusion the Bears will go into the 2021 draft looking hard at the quarterback position.

Everyone knows the names Trevor Lawrence and Justin Fields. Regardless of the opinions on those prospects by the fan base, they will likely be off the board by the time the Chicago Bears have their first selection in the 2021 draft. With that said, it looks to be a strong class for teams looking for their next franchise quarterback.

In 2020, we saw four quarterbacks go in the first round and three in the top six. In 2019, there were three in the top 15. This next class could top those numbers if a few of these prospects continue to progress or some guys bounce for the NFL earlier than expected.

Outside of Lawrence and Fields, a few other quarterbacks are getting some early-round love, while there could be some steals in the middle to late rounds as well. It is too early to tell where most of these guys could end up, but I’ll touch on some players from each prospect level in order to give a solid range.

Depending on how well Mitchell Trubisky and/or Nick Foles play this season will determine how soon the team will need to draft a quarterback in 2021. I think we can all agree though that the Chicago Bears, whether Ryan Pace is still general manager or not, should be drafting another quarterback. Many wanted to see it in the 2020 NFL Draft. To pass up on the position again in 2021 would be more than disappointing — it would be a huge mistake.
