Running Backs
David Montgomery, Tarik Cohen, Name not on the roster (3)
You might notice that I have three running back spots allocated, but only two actual names. This is because I do not see Ryan Nall being the third running back on the roster this season. The team added a few other names through undrafted free agency, but none of them stand out as better options as Nall. Some might say Artavis Pierce, but honestly, I find Nall to be a better backup.
Now, the easy names here are David Montgomery and Tarik Cohen. Just as last season, Montgomery should see the lion’s share of carries on first and second down. On obvious passing downs, you might see Cohen in the backfield, but he also is going to man the slot or run wheel routes out of a split backfield as more of a wide receiver.
Let us not forget that Matt Nagy likes to use Cordarrelle Patterson. Albeit, he uses him in the dumbest of situations at times. Patterson will be a solid change-of-pace guy and if the roster remains the same he might see more opportunities here. Please, for the life of me, just do not use him on third and one plays where you have him run to the short side of the field.
If I am Ryan Pace, I will be looking to add another running back through free agency. None of them will affect the compensatory picks for 2021 any longer. It would be interesting to see a guy like Carlos Hyde or maybe Devonta Freeman in the backfield. Either way, I expect the third option to not be on the current roster.
