Offensive Line
Charles Leno, Jr., James Daniels, Cody Whitehair, Germain Ifedi, Bobby Massie, Rashaad Coward, Jason Spriggs, Alex Bars (8)
Rounding out the last of the offensive side of the ball is the big guys up front. When it comes to the offensive line, many want to shout at the rooftops for a personnel change. Although guys like Charles Leno and Bobby Massie did not perform as well as they had in the past, could the shift from a power running style to more of a zone running style make a difference? The coaches seemed to be split in how to run things last year and that could have caused major confusion.
Leno and Massie are locks, followed by James Daniels, Cody Whitehair and Germain Ifedi. The team also brought in Germain Ifedi and Jason Spriggs through free agency. Ifedi is who I expect to start at the right guard spot over Rashaad Coward. Coward will make the final 53-man roster, but he will once again be the backup. Hopefully, Ifedi works out better than a very injured Kyle Long.
Spriggs should slot in as the backup tackle to Leno and Massie. Alex Bars has the versatility to play both inside and outside. I think Bars rounds out the final offensive lineman spot on the 53-man roster. This means both seventh-round picks Arlington Hambright and Lachavious Simmons will likely start their careers on the practice squad. This is not taking into account that the new collective bargaining agreement will allow a “55-man” roster.
