Right Guard

No one feels comfortable with Germain Ifedi standing between Cody Whitehair and Bobby Massie to start the 2020 season, do they? Honestly, not many people feel comfortable with Charles Leno or Massie manning the outside either. There is still time for Ryan Pace to find help for at least the right guard spot this offseason.

Reports are that the team is interested in Larry Warford who was recently released by the New Orleans Saints. As soon as Warford was cut, BearGogglesOn wanted Ryan Pace to pursue Warford. Clearly Pace follows the site and realized we were right in wanting a three-time Pro Bowl guard who has plenty of room left in the tank.

Warford has been a stable force in the Saints offensive line the last three years. He has started 15 games the last two seasons and 14 the year before. He has never allowed more than three sacks in a season. In 2017 and 2018, he only allowed one sack each season and only committed two penalties each season — all of them false starts.

Pro Football Focus is not my favorite source. I cannot stand most of their grades. That said, they are one of the only sources for offensive line grades. They have the deepest statistical dive into the position too. In 2019, Larry Warford recorded a 73.1 grade by PFF.

That would have been the highest grade on the Chicago Bears line in 2019 by far. The closest to him was James Daniels at 69.9. Rashaad Coward who started at right guard in 2019 had a 51.7 and Germain Ifedi, who is likely the current starter at right guard in 2020, had a 56.2 grade.

Ryan Pace needs to make this move happen and it would completely change the dynamic of the offensive line from bumpy to a possible strength.
