Mitchell Trubisky – QB
I think this one is fairly obvious. The Chicago Bears made a trade for Nick Foles prior to the 2020 NFL Draft. The compensation for Foles was a compensatory fourth-round pick. Essentially, the Bears drafted Foles in the fourth round. Had they kept the pick, not many names jump out as a better value at the 140th overall selection, but that is more for a different day.
Honestly, I believe Mitchell Trubisky will be given a real shot to start. He brings the most upside for the franchise. That said, I do not see Matt Nagy giving him a long leash and if he feels like Trubisky has not improved, we will see Nick Foles under center.
With the way the offseason has been due to the COVID-19 pandemic, I do think Trubisky will be given the first shot at starting even if both see the same amount of reps. As much as Foles knows the system, the offense is not entirely the same. Without reps, it will be hard for Foles to truly grasp the offense quickly.
Not to mention, the Chicago Bears play the Lions in Week 1 of the season. Trubisky has an unbelievable success rating against the Lions. In three years, he has completed 70.06 percent of his passes, thrown 11 touchdown passes to only four interceptions and even ran for a touchdown. His quarterback rating is 106.3.
Foles has only played the Lions once in his career. Although he gained a W in the win column, he only completed 50 percent of his passes, threw both a touchdown and interception and walked away with a 73.9 quarterback rating. It only makes sense for Trubisky to get the opening game nod even though he is on the hot seat with a short leash.
