Free agency is still upon us as we inch closer to what we hope is an NFL regular season. The Chicago Bears should still target one of these free agents.
Currently the Chicago Bears roster is full, but that does not mean anything in my opinion. No reason to not make a move just because the team has 90 active players on the roster. As the season gets closer to truly happening (with or without fans), teams will need to shave the roster down to 53 players (55 technically depending on who is kept).
When a team has a full roster, it should not stop them from continuing to look for better talent. As other teams make cuts, Ryan Pace could find that player a better home here in Chicago. There are still a few positions that need some help in regards to depth and honestly there are a couple of positions the team might find a new starter instead.
Do you feel comfortable with the current situation of the offensive line? What about the situation at running back behind David Montgomery? Would you prefer Tyler Bray at quarterback or someone with more upside? Pace needs to keep working the backend of the roster and possibly bring in more talent that could push for a starting spot.
We are still waiting for post-June 1 cuts that allow the teams the ability to spread some of the dead cap over a two-year span. This will give teams even more salary cap room in the current year but add a little dead cap to the following season. With certain cuts like Adam Shaheen and Ben Braunecker, the team could find ways to save money and add significant pieces. An Allen Robinson extension could add even more space. The point is, one or two of these could be real possibilities.
