Kelechi Osemele, Offensive Guard

A lot of fans are calling for the signing of recently released Larry Warford of the New Orlean Saints. Kelechi Osemele on the other hand may be a better fit for what the Chicago Bears are looking for in a starting offensive guard.

Osemele would immediately become the starting right guard for the Chicago Bears although they signed Germain Ifedi this offseason to a one-year deal. Ifedi is a fine offensive guard, but adding an All-Pro caliber offensive guard is better.

The knock on Osemele is his injury history. He got cut by the New York Jets shortly after they traded for him because they had a disagreement on an injury. Osemele only played in three games before being cut and played in 11 games for the Oakland Raiders in 2018 before being traded. He has only played in two 16 game seasons in his career.

The good thing about this issue would be if Osemele were to go down, the Bears would be able to see what they have in Ifedi. If they like what they see, they can extend him. If they don’t, no harm, no foul since their starter is still Osemele.

Getting Osemele would change the run game for Chicago entirely. Improving the run game helps out Matt Nagy and his playcalling a lot. The only issue is getting Osemele in for a physical with the current restrictions.
