From one of the worst positions to maybe one of the best for the Chicago Bears

Not a single tight end on the Chicago Bears roster gained over 100 yards receiving in 2020. The team has moved on from Trey Burton and I have to say I am relieved. There is something about how Burton played or did not play ever since the Eagles playoff loss in 2018.

In order for Ryan Pace to move on from Burton, the Chicago Bears signed Jimmy Graham to a two-year deal. Like Robert Quinn, Graham is not a youngling. However, he is still an upgrade over Burton. Graham has averaged 534 yards per game over the last three years and the last two seasons were with the Packers who do not make the tight end a priority like Matt Nagy’s offense does.

Beyond Graham, the Chicago Bears drafted Cole Kmet with the 43rd overall pick. This was the Bears’ first pick in the draft since they did not have a first-round pick. Kmet was the top tight end prospect and should find his way on the field rather quickly. Matt Nagy has already been impressed by his knowledge during the team’s Zoom meetings. With Kmet playing the “Y” position and Graham playing the “U” position, the tight end position is looking solid this year.
