As the Chicago Bears 2020 season approaches, where does Cordarrelle Patterson’s fantasy football value stand?

The Chicago Bears are my passion, but for a long time, my secondary passion surrounding football was fantasy football. Going forward, at this point in the year I am going to start running through players on the Chicago Bears roster and explain what round the player should be drafted, the player’s ceiling value, the player’s floor value and for dynasty fantasy leagues if the player is a buy low or sell high candidate.

When it comes to rankings and fantasy data, I will be using FantasyPros Expert Consensus Rankings (ECR) and FFToday with half-point scoring.

2020 Outlook

The Chicago Bears have to figure out how they want to use Cordarrelle Patterson this season. Will he be a wide receiver? Will he see snaps at running back again? Clearly, he will continue to provide an added bonus in the special teams game.

When I look at the roster, I expect to see the same things we saw last year. Hopefully, Matt Nagy finds a way to be more productive though. Handing the ball to Patterson on 3rd down with only one yard to go is not smart. Having him run to the short side of the field constantly is just asinine.

Target Round

When we look at the ECR for Patterson, FantasyPros has him ranked higher than Javon Wims and Riley Ridley. I am curious if that has to do with the fact fantasy analysts expect Patterson to be involved with the offense in various ways or if some believe he will be the third wide receiver option. Personally, I think Ridley sees the third-most targets from the wide receiver position.

Patterson is not going to be worth a draft pick in any leagues other than deep leagues that reward points for return yardage.

Ceiling Value

Gauging Patterson’s ceiling is tough. He has never been a consistent weapon on offense for any team. Looking at history, his ceiling is not very high. The most I picture for him is 300 yards and three touchdowns on offense. The only way he does better is if he returns a kickoff or two.

Floor Value

The only good thing for Patterson is that his floor is pretty secure. He will have attempts running the ball out of the backfield and at least 20 targets through the air. The problem is, that it is not worth much for him in fantasy.

Buy Low, Sell High or Hold

Patterson is a guy you do not buy or sell. To be honest, I am not sure who will even be holding onto him at this point either. Again, the only way he is worth anything is in a deep dynasty league that awards points for return yards. Even then, meh. We know what Patterson is and that is not changing. Other players with more upside are worth the roster spot on your fantasy team.
