Eddy Pineiro will set the Chicago Bears record for longest field goal

Last offseason the Chicago Bears put on a circus with their kicking competition. Many believe it might have been a distraction for Matt Nagy and is why the team came out flat the first few weeks of the season. The other contribution may have been the lack of playing time for the starters in the preseason. No one will really know, but at least Nagy says the starters will play more this preseason and it seems like the circus has pulled down their tents.

Eddy Pineiro came out on top of the kicking competition and found himself starting for the Chicago Bears for all of 2019. He is still the favorite to kick in 2020, but the team did bring in a camp body as competition in Ramiz Ahmed. Personally, I do not think Ahmed has a chance.

Pineiro was not the most accurate kicker last season, but he has a pretty big leg. Pineiro made a game-winning field goal versus the Broncos in Week 2 last season but also missed on another opportunity to win the game versus the Chargers. His longest kick last year was from 53 yards out.

The Chicago Bears’ longest field goal in franchise history belongs to no other than Robbie Gould. Gould hit a 58-yarder in 2013 and nobody, including Gould himself, has broken it since. That will change in 2020 though. I am predicting Pineiro to hit a 60-yard field goal this season.
