Chicago Bears: 3 Reasons why both running backs will be better in 2020
By Jimmie Sykes
Chicago Bears running backs Tarik Cohen and David Montgomery are fixing to turn the corner during the 2020 campaign.
The Chicago Bears offense had inconsistent moments throughout the 2019 season. They finished 27th in rushing with a 29th ranked offense. Though at times it was hard to move the ball for the team, a few things did appear for them moving forward. David Montgomery, who is entering his second year with the team, finished the season with 889 rushing yards. Fourth-year speedster Tarik Cohen finished with 213 yards on 64 carries, averaging 3.3 yards per carry.
Behind their production and other moments the offense shared, they finished third in the NFC North. Coming off a previous division championship, this Bears team know what it takes to get over the top. Momentum is a key component to the winning factor. Often times during the season they lost it, had it too early, or too late in the game. Being afloat all four quarters was their recipe for domination in 2018.
In 2020, much is on the line for the Bears. Montgomery and Cohen could turn heads across the division. This offense is going through changes with the acquisition of the likes of Cole Kmet in the draft, Jimmy Graham, Ted Ginn Jr., and more. It’s more to look forward to this year as this offense is faced to weather a new progression. A versatile dose of the ground game can open up the game for the other offensive players as well.
Although Cohen gets used in other ways, his role out of the backfield can turn a game around. This core backfield can turn out for a nice slash-and-dash combo. Both backs are under the age of 25 with a lot to prove in the league still. Character is instilled in them and they both play a vital role on the team moving forward. The duo of Tarik Cohen and David Montgomery holds good reasoning as to why they can have a better year than the previous.
