Chicago Bears: 3 most overhyped players heading into the 2020 season
By Joseph Herff
Tashaun Gipson
This is another player who is being incredibly overhyped by the Chicago Bears’ fanbase. Tashaun Gipson is a very talented safety, but that doesn’t mean he will be the starter. He was brought in on a cheap deal and still has to beat out Deon Bush for the job. Bush has received a lot of praise from Chuck Pagano and other defensive coaches in Chicago.
As stated above, Gipson is talented, but his abilities as a strong safety may be a question mark for the 2020 season. Gipson is mainly a free-roaming safety similar to Eddie Jackson and recent safety Ha Ha Clinton-Dix.
Last season, Gipson was cut after underperforming his contract in Houston. This doesn’t come off as a huge surprise as Houston’s secondary always struggles, but he still was cut. He also struggled with injuries in his time in Houston.
Additionally discussed above, Bush is a very solid box safety. He would be a great complement to Jackson’s ball-hawking ability as he is the hard-hitting, fearless safety. Gipson plays a lot like Jackson and that could be a bad thing in this case. We have to wait and see if he even starts.
Final Thoughts:
As I will finally repeat: this is just saying what players are overhyped by the Bears’ fans for the 2020 season only. I truly believe Gipson is a good safety, just not a great one. I believe Kmet will be a great tight end in the future, just not for 2020. Foles is just overhyped because fans focus on the highs while ignoring the lows.
