Chicago Bears: 3 most under-hyped players heading into the 2020 season
David Montgomery
Last season, David Montgomery played good enough for the Bears. He made the most of what he could get. He finished the season with 889 yards rushing on 242 carries along with six rushing touchdowns. He was also a factor in the passing game, where he hauled in 25 passes for 184 yards and a touchdown.
It would be easy to say that Montgomery did not have a very good year, as he did not get in the endzone that much and the yards were not that great. Yet, digging deeper would show that with the poor play of the offensive line, tight ends, and the lack of offense in general, Montgomery was solid. Also considering the fact that the Bears were forced to pass in many games due to being behind after a slow offensive start, Montgomery did good enough.
Montgomery showed the ability to run hard, make people miss, catch the ball, stay healthy, and even elite-level vision and elusiveness. He demonstrated the patience and agility of a veteran running back as a rookie. I believe the Bears have something special in Montgomery.
Watching his highlights it seems like every play it takes three guys to bring him down. He does not give up on plays and he plays with a high motor. He has everything you would want in a running back besides the game-breaking speed. Yet, he still has the quickness and burst of most of the top backs in the game.
With a slightly improved offensive line, better tight ends, and a new offense, Montgomery has the tools to have what I think will be a breakout year. I expect him to rush for over 1,000 yards and find the end zone more often.
He is already one of my favorite players, and I really want Bears fans to hype him up. He has so much potential and is so young. Look for him to have a big year this season.
