Who will be burning defenses?

After Taylor Gabriel was cut last season, that left a major hole in the Bears’ wide receiver core. Gabriel was the only guy on their roster that could burn a defense with his speed and deep threat ability. His age and injuries started catching up to him, so he no longer became worth his contract leading to his release.

After his release, the Chicago Bears brought in two speedsters who are completely opposite wide receivers.

For starters, the Chicago Bears drafted Darnell Mooney out of Tulane in the fifth-round. With his 4.38 speed, Mooney can burn a defense like no other. His explosiveness can also aid him in turning a quick slant into a 60-yard touchdown.

On the flip side, they also brought in veteran Ted Ginn Jr. Like Mooney, Ginn can still run and has blazing speed. He’s deep threat ability has been shown through 13 NFL seasons. He signed a one-year deal to battle with the rookie for the starting job.

Prediction:

My prediction is Ginn will win the starting job. Ginn brings a veteran presence to this rather young wide receiver core. Mooney will still get playing time, but Ginn should be the ‘Z’ of the present whereas Mooney will be the ‘Z’ of the future.
