Which way is the stock trending on the Chicago Bears safety Deon Bush?

The Chicago Bears had to make a decision on Deon Bush this offseason. Bush was a free agent. Considering the Bears had a chance to start him in 2019, but chose to sign Haha Clinton-Dix instead, the team may not be that high on his overall prospects.

So, when Bush and Clinton-Dix entered free agency, the thought was that Bush would not be back, and if was, he may be competing for starting snaps. In both cases, the expected outcome did not happen.

As it turns out, the league has the same thoughts on Bush as the Bears. There was no market for him. So, he signed back with the team, albeit on just a one-year deal.

Still, at the time of the signing, he was in the driver’s seat to be a starter. Then, after the draft, the Chicago Bears signed Tashaun Gipson. By all accounts, Gipson will start over Deon Bush.

So, in assessing the value of Bush, it is hard to say he has moved up. In fact, he is arguably in the same spot as last year. Bush will not be a starter and will be a free agent at the end of this season.  He will not have a chance to prove himself other than special teams.

Even then, Sherrick McManis, DeAndre Houston-Carson, and Jordan Lucas will be competing for snaps against Bush as well. He should be the third safety behind both Jackson and Gipson, but that is not guaranteed with a few other names on the depth chart. The Bears have not shown faith in him, and Bush is going to struggle to get the chance to prove himself.
