Which way is the stock trending on Chicago Bears safety DeAndre Houston-Carson?

DeAndre Houston-Carson has been with the Chicago Bears for four years, and yet still has played just 75 defensive snaps. However, it is fair to say that he has progressed every season so far.

As a rookie, DHC played just 110 special teams snaps. The following season, he was a core special teamer on four groups and played 193 snaps. The next season he became a five-unit player and played 279s. Finally, in 2019, he had the best year of special teams play with eight tackles, zero penalties, and 340 snaps played.

According to PFF, he was one of the team’s best special team members of the Chicago Bears. That is why it should be no surprise that the Chicago Bears re-signed him, and he likely will make the roster for the fifth straight year.

That is a sign that his stock is still trending up. He is stepping into the long term role that Sherrick McManis has had for years.

It is fair to say that Houston-Carson only signed a one-year deal. The team wants him back but were not inclined to extend him longer.

However, for DHC, that could be a bet on himself. He has continued to increase his value so far in the NFL, and if he could get a shot on defense, it may sway some general managers. Even still, another consistent year on special teams may spark some interest.

It may be for the best for Houston-Carson and the Bears to do a one-year deal. With that in mind, his stock is still trending up.
