Chicago Bears Offseason Stock Watch: Sherrick McManis
Which way is the stock trending for Chicago Bears safety Sherrick McManis
Sherrick McManis has been with the Chicago Bears since 2012. He has lasted through a few eras of the team, but there is a chance that 2020 is the end of his run with the team.
McManis saw his biggest drop in play in 2019. Injuries had to do with it, but he played the least special teams action of his career. He will be 33 by the end of the season and is on the downside of his career. If the Bears have names that they can trust, they are likely to push McManis out.
The Chicago Bears just so happen to have some defensive backs that they trust. McManis already moved to safety last year due to the depth chart around him. However, this offseason, the safety depth chart is a bit deeper.
Tashaun Gipson will start across from Eddie Jackson. The Bears brought back DeAndre Houston-Carson and Deon Bush. Both have slowly but surely ascended over McManis. Beyond that, the Bears signed Jordan Lucas from Kansas City.
Lucas has a similar profile to McManis and could very well be the replacement for him. The Chicago Bears may have saw McManis decline towards the end of last season and admit to themselves that it was time to move on.
Sure, McManis will have his chances to compete and make the roster once again. However, Jordan Lucas will be right on his tail and very well could take his roster spot. Never say never with Sherrick McManis, but he is trending down currently.
