Chicago Bears: 4 players who could win NFL honors in 2020
Cole Kmet could win Rookie of the Year for the Chicago Bears
This pick might come as a surprise to many, as the AP NFL Rookie of the Year award generally goes to a quarterback or a running back. Cole Kmet, however, has a unique opportunity on the Chicago Bears entering the 2020 season.
Last season, Chicago didn’t have a single tight end surpass 100 yards receiving. This number can be pointed to as one of many reasons that this Windy City offense was such a disaster this past season. Trubisky couldn’t find his guys, whether it be a slightly injured Trey Burton or unproven free agent signing J.P. Holtz. The lack of talent at this spot had started to catch up to the coaching staff and I believe this is a potential reason as to why Trubisky’s job has been so difficult.
Cole Kmet wasn’t a first-round pick. He was arguably the best tight end in a somewhat weak tight end class. But regardless, he was the top priority for this team, especially considering the awful season in Chicago prior to this. Kmet will get a unique opportunity to walk into the NFL and receiving significant playing time beside NFL legend Jimmy Graham. Even if he doesn’t have a ROTY-type season, the cards are lined up for him to be a great player in this league.
