Chicago Bears: Bargain free agents who could still be upgrades for 2020
The Chicago Bears could use the help of Spencer Ware
At this point, I am just kicking a dead horse. For anyone who has read my opinion over the last few months, I am very concerned about the depth at running back. I get that the Bears were lucky enough to be able to cut Mike Davis last year, but luck when it comes to health can quickly run out. The Chicago Bears need to bring in someone better than the current depth at the position.
When it comes to Ryan Nall, Napoleon Maxwell and Artavis Pierce, I have no faith that one could manage a full workload if David Montgomery were to go down with an injury. Instead, the team should turn to a familiar face of Matt Nagy and that is Spencer Ware. With names like Devonta Freeman, Lamar Miller and LeSean McCoy still available in free agency, Ware should be very inexpensive.
Ware proved he could carry the load in 2016 by starting 14 games and rushing for 921 yards. He has dealt with some injuries over the years but would make the perfect backup in the current offense. With a limited camp schedule and likely no preseason games, Ware should be able to pick up the offensive scheme almost immediately and serves as a better backup than anyone on the current roster.
