These defensive players should be the first to be released

Michael Joseph, CB

When we look at the roster, Michael Joseph looks to be the first corner who should see the door. He does not have any NFL experience as he has yet to see a regular-season snap. He was on the Chicago Bears practice squad last season, but that is not enough of a reason to stick around in 2020.

Trevon McSwain, DT and Lee Autry, NT

The next two who should see the door are Trevon McSwain and Lee Autry. Both defensive linemen are 2020 undrafted free agents. McSwain played five years for Duke. His best season was in 2019 when he racked up four sacks and seven tackles for loss. Autry played two seasons at Mississippi State and finished with almost invisible stats. Neither has a chance of making the roster and the Bears have plenty of depth at the position.

LaCale London, NT

I was trying to decide between LaCale London, Isaiah Irving, Devante Bond and Keandre Jones for the final guy to see the door. Irving and Bond have special teams experience and could bring value in that perspective. Jones is an interesting 2020 undrafted free agent. He had experience at Ohio State and shined after transferring to Maryland. This left London as the Bears will only keep two nose tackles anyway — Eddie Goldman and John Jenkins.

Final Thoughts: Although the team can use the loophole, if they decide to cut the roster to 80 prior to padded practices starting August 16th, these nine players would be who I would cut first. None of them bring any upside and will not find themselves cracking the final 53-man roster anyway.
