One season under his belt

Now, besides the personnel changes surrounding Montgomery, he should additionally improve. As the season went on, Montgomery saw his carries increase more and more. During the first six games, Montgomery only eclipsed 20 carries one time and had two games of single-digit carries. The next 10 games, Montgomery saw highs of 27, 23, and 20 carries and never saw single-digit carries again.

Another crazy stat, in games that David Montgomery carried the ball more than 15 times, the Bears were 6-1 with their only loss coming against the Los Angeles Chargers in which Eddy Pineiro missed a game-winning kick. Any game he had less than 15 carries, the Bears were 2-7. Basically, feed him the ball.

Even former NFL running back Maurice Jones-Drew had some kind words to say when writing about which running backs should breakout this season.

"“Montgomery has the goods to lead the Bears’ offensive charge with his vision, ability to break tackles and speed in the open field… He should see closer to 280-300 carries, easily gain 1,000-plus rushing yards and log double-digit TDs.”"

As stated before, Montgomery has been putting in the work this offseason to improve his footwork and be the next great running back from Chicago. He has a great chance to break out this season. All the Bears need to do is feed him the ball.
