Where does the Chicago Bears interior defensive line rank amongst the NFC North?

After looking into where the Chicago Bears rank at some of the key offensive spots, it is clear that they will need their defense to rank higher to be considered a threat in the NFC North. That is not breaking news, though and was expected coming into the year.

So, where do the Chicago Bears rank heading into the 2020 season? We are going to split the defensive line into the interior and the edge rushers. Today, we will look at the interior lineman.

4. Minnesota Vikings

Jaleel Johnson, Shamar Stephen, Jalyn Holmes, Hercules Mata Afa, James Lynch

The Vikings are seeing a big loss with Linval Joseph heading into Los Angelas in free agency. The team thought that they were going to save money and get a similar value in the player by signing Michael Pierce from the Ravens. Pierce was a stud run plugger in Baltimore who will see his snaps replaced mainly by Calais Campbell.

You do not see Piece listed because he is one of the many key players that opted out with the COVID-19 issues going around globally. Bears fans are not shedding tears for the Vikings, as they lost Eddie Goldman as well. Still, that is devastating for Minnesota.

This puts a ton on the plate of Stephen and Johnson, who are supposed to be early-down complimentary players.

Holmes is fun because he has edge rusher speed, but is a pass rusher from the interior. Mata Afa and Lynch are in a similar mold, but both are young and a bit more projects as of this moment. Still, there is not a big name in this group and plenty of questions throughout.
