Chicago Bears: 4 Defensive players who are on the roster bubble
One of Artie Burns or Kevin Toliver could be the odd man out
Technically, this makes five players on the roster bubble. However, only one of these two are likely to make the team. As I mentioned when discussing the defensive backs earlier, only five corners were kept on the roster in 2019. Kyle Fuller is a lock on one side and Jaylon Johnson is not getting cut this year since he was selected in the second round of the 2020 NFL Draft.
Buster Skrine is another lock and I would suspect Duke Shelley is making the roster too. If not Shelley, fifth-round pick Kindle Vildor is another name I could see taking that spot. One of these two is likely going to be on the practice squad. Either way, this means four cornerbacks are going to be in place before we even start talking about the likes of Artie Burns and Kevin Toliver.
This is crazy since one of the two will also likely be the starting corner opposite of Fuller to start the season. Right now, my money is on Burns. Toliver has shown minimal success in the defense. Although Burns struggled in Pittsburgh, he was a former first-round pick whereas Toliver was an undrafted free agent. If Toliver is not on the final roster, the hope will be that the team can stash him on the practice squad.
