5. Buster Skrine, CB

Believe it or not, Buster Skrine‘s long NFL career was built on more than just a cool haircut and great name. With two years left on his contract, the 31-year old will be finishing his stint with the Chicago Bears after the 2021-22 season as a 10-year vet in the league. Through 2018, he posted 9 interceptions and 77 pass deflections as a Cleveland Brown and New York Jet.

He came to Chicago as a replacement for Bryce Callahan. And while Callahan finished his career on an extremely high note, the Bears were left with no option but to let him go. Yes, Callahan was more productive than Skrine. He was probably a better player than Skrine. But Buster has done everything that Chicago asked of him and more. Callahan hasn’t played a snap since 2018, so I’d say the Bears made a great choice in singing Skrine.

Players like Skrine won’t ever be talked about in the NFL and that’s okay. He came in to fill a hole on this defense and, despite posting modest numbers, improved his advanced stats in almost every category.

No, Skrine won’t make any headlines anytime soon. Your dad, who has been a Chicago Bears fan since 1960, probably doesn’t even know his name. But Buster Skrine has been an extremely important part of this top-5 defensive unit.
