2. Germain Ifedi, OG
In an offseason where the Chicago Bears signed Robert Quinn, Jimmy Graham, and Ted Ginn, offensive guard Germain Ifedi‘s name got lost somewhere along the way.
As an offensive lineman, it’s not unusual to be overlooked by the common fan. But as a former four-star recruit who thrived at Texas A&M, earning him a spot to be drafted in the first round, overlooked is not a word he’s used to hearing.
With the recent retirement of Kyle Long, Chicago will have a giant hole to fill this season. There’s no guarantee that Ifedi will be able to do that, but he does have something that can benefit the squad, regardless of his performance on the field. The veteran lineman will add experience to a unit led by new offensive line coach Juan Castillo.
Whether or not he wins the starting job over Rashaad Coward, he’ll have a huge impact on this offensive line. This is a competition that will more than likely bring the best out of both guys involved. The positive here is that if one guy goes down, there’s another waiting to take control of the spot that he lost.
