Chicago Bears: 6 players whose expectations are still uncertain
By Liam Fox
1. Germain Ifedi – Is he able to improve the Chicago Bears offensive line?
Germain Ifedi filled-in at starting right tackle for the Seattle Seahawks the past two seasons and at right guard before that. Ifedi ranked second in snaps among offensive tackles last season according to Pro Football Focus, but his performance the last few years has been spotty, to say the least. Like many Seahawk offensive linemen, he faced his fair share of criticism from analysts and fans alike.
With Kyle Long’s retirement, Ifedi was brought in during free agency to compete for the starting right guard position. His primary competition will be Rashaad Coward, who seems to be slated as the starter heading into the season.
Ifedi will certainly see snaps this year even if he loses the starting right guard job to Coward out of training camp. He will have a role on an offensive line that looks at face value to be a below-average unit but has the talent to be formidable if they come together as designed. Ifedi could be a contributing factor in the Chicago Bears’ offensive success on the right side of the line — or he could ride the bench if his pass protection proves to be as ineffective as it was at times in Seattle.
