How has the Chicago Bears offensive line looked so far in training camp?

The biggest winner of the first week of practice is Germain Ifedi. While there are clear position battles elsewhere, there is not much debate about who will be starting at right guard for the Chicago Bears.

Ifedi has received glowing reports and camp, and offensive line coach Juan Castillo noted that Ifedi is not holding on to the starting job, but dominating his way to starting. By all indications, there is no competition and will take game day failures to stop Ifedi from starting in Chicago.

This makes sense when looking at his competition. Rashaad Coward, Arlington Hambright, and Alex Bars have received little to no attention, and Nagy even said developmental while trying to avoid saying the word when speaking of Hambright.

Coward and Bars may see themselves taking more snaps at tackle as well. Jason Spriggs was injured recently and it sounds like it could be a multiple week issue. The Bears do not have depth behind Bobby Massie and Charles Leno and losing Spriggs squashes any player with NFL experience on the roster.

Now, Lachavious Simmons is the one with the most snaps at tackle. There have been reports that Bars and Coward have taken some snaps at tackle, though most of their time has been spent in the guard competition. However, with Spriggs, the idea would be that at least one of the two will play more tackle in the coming days.

Lastly, for some optimism, Cody Whitehair has noted that James Daniels bulked up. This is important because strength has been the biggest issue for Daniels in the NFL. Still, this is a very young man developing into a stronger body. Daniels could be in for a big year.
