The Chicago Bears have not seen Eddy Pineiro kick this offseason and just signed another kicker

When the Chicago Bears signed Cairo Santos, it felt like a bit of a precautionary move. To most Bears fans, Eddy Pineiro did his job well in 2019 and did not need competition in 2020 like he did the year prior. Still, it is always smart for the Bears to update their list of contacts, right?

Well, Santos was a player the Bears were familiar with, so rather than updating the contacts, they went to the contact book and called a name they know. After the Santos signing, word started to come out that maybe this has more to do with Pinerio than we think.

Fans are not at practice, and the media only gets so much time to watch, so they are not glued to the kicker battle. Still, it is worth noting that a week into practice and the Bears have yet to let Pinerio kick in front of anyone.

What makes this matter worse is that now beat reporters are speculating this is an injury-related issue. Pineiro tweaked his groin last season but was supposedly back and ready to go for the start of this season.

Of course, the Bears were not able to get their doctors to take a look during this weird offseason. Still, the expectation was for Pinerio to kick without competition.

Santos coming in is smoke and when there is smoke, a fire may start sooner than later. Eddy Pineiro is not healthy and the Chicago Bears know it. They signed Cairo Santos, a completely capable kicker.

The chances that Santos is starting for the Bears week one is much higher than most fans realize at this point. Until we see Pineiro kick, the worst could be assumed.
