Chicago Bears: 5 players from the CFL who deserve tryouts
Willie Jefferson, DE
The Chicago Bears have plenty of depth on the defensive line, but the quality of the depth could be in question. The defensive line has seen a shakeup with Eddie Goldman opting out this season. Currently, the starters look to be Akiem Hicks and Roy Robertson-Harris on the outside, while Bilal Nichols has shifted over to the nose tackle spot.
It sounds like Nichols is tearing it up in camp, but what about the depth behind all of them? John Jenkins and Brent Urban are the two names I expect to stick around. The rest of them are all up in the air. With the CFL canceled for 2020, the Bears should consider bringing in Willie Jefferson for a tryout.
Jefferson was a hot commodity before he decided to stick it out in the CFL earlier this year. He actually had a workout with the Miami Dolphins that went well before making the decision to sign his two-year extension with the Blue Bombers.
Jefferson is the 2019 Most Outstanding Defensive Player. He earned All-Star honors for three consecutive years. Last year he finished with 12 sacks, six forced fumbles and even an interception. In 2018 he finished with 10 sacks, two interceptions, two forced fumbles and even two touchdowns. He clearly has the talent and is only 28 years old. Bringing him in for a tryout makes sense.
