Another solution to the running back concerns could be to sign a running back available. There are a lot of running backs available still, but Devonta Freeman seems like he would be the perfect fit for this offense and a good replacement for Montgomery.

With Freeman’s ability to catch passes and run between the tackles, he has the ability to be a workhorse back. Granted, he may not have the health to do it anymore, but he may be able to do it for a short time while Montgomery recovers, or work in a committee with the other running backs on the roster.

Freeman is a little past his prime, but he still is a solid running back. Last season, he struggled to run the ball behind a poor run-blocking line, but he still played well as a receiving back. He had his usual injury concerns, but that’s why he would likely be a depth piece over being the main guy in Chicago.

Freeman could be the perfect answer, but the Bears may not want to spend the money possibly required to sign the two-time Pro Bowl running back.

Editors Note: Other names to consider are Isaiah Crowell, Javorius Allen, Spencer Ware and even Marshawn Lynch
