Chicago Bears new EDGE Robert Quinn looks to improve the defense

The Chicago Bears newest pass rusher Robert Quinn is coming into his 10th NFL season and his first with Chicago. In 2019 he played with the Dallas Cowboys and arguably had his best season since his 2013 season, where he recorded 19 sacks.

His 2019 season with the Cowboys was somewhat of a renaissance season. You can argue that Quinn had been on the decline for his last couple years on the Rams, and his brief stay in Miami. Defensive coordinator, Chuck Pagano should be excited to use Quinn this upcoming year because Quinn is a legit pass disruptor, who can cause havoc on opposing teams Quarterbacks.

He is replacing former Chicago Bears first-round pick Leonard Floyd. Who in my opinion, while not a major draft bust, but was definitely was a miss by Bears GM Ryan Pace. Floyd was a first-round pick in 2016 and has pretty much underwhelmed, injuries and inconsistent play put a damper on the early part of his career.

Pairing Quinn with Khalil Mack on the edge should open up a lot more opportunities for both players. As stated earlier, with Leonard Floyd’s underwhelming play, teams were able to focus their attention more on Mack. Having Quinn opposite of Mack will be a nightmare for Defensive Coordinators and offensive linemen. No one will know who to focus on while blocking.

With Robert getting up there in age I look for him to be out there mostly for passing situations, particularly on third down. The Bears have some guys along that line who can make plays in the NFL. Obviously Mack is a game-wrecker, combine that with a healthy Akiem Hicks, and Roy Robertson-Harris, who looks capable of being a starter on other teams.

Going into 2020 I think the Bears have a chance of having one of the best defensive lines across the league. Ryan Pace gets criticized for a lot of his decisions, some of it warranted, but bringing in Quinn is a no brainer for a team that was lacking a dominant presence across Mack.
