The Chicago Bears need to draft a quarterback in 2021 no matter what happens in 2020.

We all know the Chicago Bears are in the middle of a quarterback competition. Matt Nagy has stated he will not make a public announcement on which quarterback will be starting against the Detroit Lions prior to that first game. Is this because the competition is that close or because Nagy is looking to use some deception against his divisional rival?

Honestly, it seems the answer is both. All reports seem to indicate that neither quarterback has impressed or wowed the media. Some have Nick Foles further ahead whereas others seem to think Mitch Trubisky is likely the Week 1 starter. Here’s the thing. Only the coaches truly know how tight the competition is right now. No one other than them has access to the tape. No one other than them knows the play call and what decisions were to be made.

The other thing about this competition, no matter what the outcome, the Chicago Bears must look to draft a quarterback in 2021. Ryan Pace flirted with the idea of drafting a quarterback every year if necessary. Although I am not sure I would take this route, I do believe you need to draft one consistently. Pace has been the General Manager of the Bears for six years now (2015-2020) yet he has only drafted one quarterback — Mitch Trubisky.

Trubisky has not been good enough to continue to ignore the position through the draft. This is why it does not matter how well Trubisky or Nick Foles looks in 2020, the Chicago Bears must draft a quarterback in 2021. Since the team will not be bad enough in 2020 to lock in a top-10 pick, Justin Fields and Trevor Lawrence will not be in the picture. Here are a few names the Bears could consider throughout the first three rounds.
