The Chicago Bears could add defensive line talent
Cameron Heyward, DL – Pittsburgh Steelers
Cameron Heyward has been a stud on the Steelers’ defensive line for the last several years and is a perfect 3-4 defensive end. He has the size and skill to rush the passer at a high level while also being great on the run. One might wonder why a contending team like Pittsburgh would trade such a good player, but they could have their reasons.
Heyward is 32 years old right now, which means his prime is most likely behind him. Also, he is a free agent at the end of the year, so this would be the last chance to capitalize on his value without having to give him a new contract.
Plus, this team has great defensive line depth with the likes of Stephon Tuitt, Dan McCullers, Tyson Alualu, and other young pieces, not to mention their pass rush with T.J. Watt and Bud Dupree. They would have no problem finding pieces from inside to replace his talent.
The Bears would most likely have to give up a fourth or fifth-round pick, which is somewhat good value for a guy like Heyward. He would not be too hard to get due to his age and contract situation. Maybe a fourth and a future pick would suffice.
Heyward would be an excellent piece to add to the Bears’ line if they are not getting the production they want out of guys like Akiem Hicks, Bilal Nichols, or Roy Robertson-Harris. Another veteran to mentor some of the younger guys on this defense, and I feel he would find it really easy to play with a great teammate like Akiem Hicks. Not to mention, he would be coming to a situation with an arguably better pass rush than the Steelers.
