The Chicago Bears recently cut Kevin Toliver, what’s next for him?

The Chicago Bears seem to like their cornerback group. Of course, they have Kyle Fuller, then behind him, there are Jaylon Johnson, Buster Skrine, Kindle Vildor, and Duke Shelley. Many thought Kevin Toliver would have been a staple in this group, and he was even considered for the starting role opposite Kyle Fuller, so what happened?

No real news has come out, but he was most likely outplayed in camp. Matt Nagy raved about Jaylon Johnson being ready to start, which means the competition was most likely for backup corner positions. Kindle Vildor has a lot of promise and really could turn into a solid player given his talent.

Duke Shelley has been in the scheme for two years now and must have shown the coaches something more than Toliver. This cut shows that the coaches were not messing around this year. They weren’t going to sugarcoat anything. Toliver must not have played well, and the coaches did not hesitate to cut him. This is a good sign because other players will be on a short leash, such as the quarterbacks.

Many thought Kevin Toliver would have a significant role for the Chicago Bears

Nevertheless, I thought this was going to be a big year for Toliver, as last year he had some really solid performances. Even if he did not start, he could have been a good backup. Yet, he did not play well enough to make the main roster. He will most likely be stashed on the expanded 16-man practice squad.

I have a feeling it won’t be long before a team looking for a young corner with upside tries to steal him. Hopefully, the Bears match this then because I still believe in Toliver and I hope he gets another shot with the Bears.

An important thing to note is that guys like Vildor and Shelley must have had really good camps because both have less experience than Toliver, who should have had the upper hand in camp. This is really exciting because it means if this translates to the field this season, the Bears could have a really competitive secondary, especially considering how good it already is.

Whatever happens for Kevin Toliver next, I hope it is with the Bears. Hopefully, he can show the Bears that they were wrong to cut him and maybe earn a spot back with the team. For now, though, he will most likely be a practice squad player, unfortunately.
