Tashaun Gipson finds his way into the starting role for the Chicago Bears

Wow. This might be the most shocking to me if I am being honest. All camp it seemed like Deon Bush was the guy playing next to Eddie Jackson in the strong-safety spot. I know Tashaun Gipson was dealing with an injury, but to see him supplant Bush already was surprising.

Maybe he brought it on towards the end of camp when the media was no longer present. Maybe once fully healthy he proved himself worthy over Bush. When the Chicago Bears signed Gipson I thought he would be the starter immediately, but it just did not seem to be looking that way throughout camp.

This is good news though Bears fans. Why? It means we have better depth at the safety position than originally thought. If Gipson is healthy enough to start, Bush is a great secondary option who can fill in for both Gipson or Jackson should either need to miss time or just catch a breather. I am excited to see what Gipson brings this upcoming Sunday because he definitely fits the role better than Ha Ha Clinton-Dix last year. He is more suited for the role but can still defend in split-coverages.
