Jaylon Johnson will start across from Kyle Fuller despite early concerns

If the Tashaun Gipson news was not the biggest surprise, this Jaylon Johnson one might be. When working out the depth chart predictions, I assumed Johnson would see limited action in Week 1 and split some time with Buster Skrine. That said, I thought Skrine would wind up being the starter while Johnson would back him up. I would figure Chuck Pagano would have packages or series ready where Johnson would play outside and Skrine would slide back over to the nickel.

This could still happen despite Johnson being listed as the CB2 opposite Kyle Fuller. Pagano and Matt Nagy might just be doing it the opposite way than I expected. Johnson was always going to be the starting outside corner, but coming off shoulder surgery many believed he would not be ready to start the first game of the year.

All throughout camp, we heard how much the team really liked Johnson’s talent and decision-making. He brings a great upside to the position and I could see him giving the team a reason to move on from Fuller within the next couple of years.
