Ranking Chicago Bears Practice Squad Players
4. Abdullah Anderson, NT
A minor surprise from the 53-man roster was Abdullah Anderson not making it. With Eddie Goldman opting out, the Bears kept five defensive linemen instead of six. Beyond that, they added Mario Edwards, who is closer to an edge rusher than a nose tackle.
So, the Bears will head into Week One with John Jenkins as the only true nose tackle. To be fair, Bilal Nichols has been a stud run stuffer, and it could be argued that he will slide in as the starting nose tackle, with John Jenkins as his backup. Then, Roy Robertson-Harris would start at DE.
Still, this leaves Anderson out, but on the practice squad. He will need an injury to Jenkins, or the nose tackle depth to be a glaring issue to see the 2020 roster.
3. Jesper Horsted, TE
Jesper Horsted is another practice squad player who could have made the 53-man roster. However, it is Eric Saubert making it over him. Horsted found his way onto the roster last year, and we saw how injuries can deplete a tight end room. Still, the Bears are hoping that a healthier overall group means that Horsted gets a year on the practice squad to develop and come back into 2021 stronger.
2. Cairo Santos, K
It seems as though Eddy Pineiro is healthy enough to kick Week One. However, the Bears keeping Santos on the practice squad was something that Matt Nagy wanted to ensure. With an extra spot, and depth more valuable than ever, it makes sense to have a kicker you are familiar with on the practice squad.
1. Jamon Brown, OG
There were 15 practice squad players from the Chicago Bears 80-man roster. However, the most intriguing spent his summer at the Atlanta Falcons camp. Brown has struggled in the NFL and bounced around, but he has more NFL starts than any Chicago Bears right guard option combined. With so many options at right guard and so many questions, Brown is certainly in the mix to see the field in 2020.
