How do the Chicago Bears offensive tackles grade out?

Offensive Tackles: Charles Leno Jr, Bobby Massie, Jason Spriggs, Rashad Coward

Grade: C+

While the Bears do have their issues at offensive line, I look at their OT situation and I honestly see an above-average crew.

I’m going to start with their backups this time, when I look at Jason Spriggs and Rashad Coward I believe both of them can be quality depth pieces. If these guys are starting every week you may find some cause for concern. However, if they’re at the bottom of the depth chart I think that is fine.

Rashad is a former defensive lineman out of Old Dominion, who transitioned to the O-line after his rookie season.  He also started 13 games at guard last season after Kyle Long went down.

Jason Spriggs has been a career backup who was drafted by the Packers in the 2016 draft. The former Indiana Hoosier has only started 9 games in his short career but can be relied upon to play the position in a jam.

When it comes to the two starters I have a little more confidence in them. Bobby Massie is now coming into his ninth season and has been with the Bears since 2016. While his play on the field can be a bit up and down, he is a reliable starter at the position. He missed six games last year but otherwise has never played less than 15 in his Bears career.

Watching Trubisky’s blindside is LT Charles Leno. Leno was drafted in the seventh round of the 2014 draft by the Bears. I feel that Leno is one of the more underrated tackles in the NFL. He played in six games his rookie year but otherwise has never played less than 16 games in a season. Extremely reliable and easily the best tackle on the team.
