The guard play on the Chicago Bears is going to need some guys to step up

Guards: Germain Ifedi, James Daniels, Rashad Coward, Alex Bars, Arlington Hambright

Grade: C-

The guard position is what I have the least amount of confidence in compared to any other position on the roster. While the Chicago Bears do have a lot of depth at the position, the argument can be made that all these guys are question marks.

Starting with Arlington Hambright, he is a rookie who the Bears drafted in the seventh round of this year’s draft. I don’t see him getting much run this season unless there are some injuries. I feel the same about second-year player Alex Bars who did play five games last season.

Moving to Rashad Coward who I talked about earlier, is fine as a depth piece. If he is starting like last year there can be some worries.

The two starting guards are going to be James Daniels and Germain Ifedi. Daniels, of course, can play multiple positions across the line which is a good thing. However, his play can be quite up and down at times. The former second-round pick started all 16 games last season, and his looking to take a step forward.

Germain Ifedi is a newcomer to this Bears offensive line, coming over from Seattle this past offseason. Bears fans are hoping that a change of scenery can help the young lineman that seemed to struggle as an RT for the Seahawks.

PFF had him graded as a pretty average 56.2 last season. Germain is hoping to come in and have a strong year for Chicago, but his track record hasn’t been great so far.
