Chicago Bears vs Detroit Lions: 5 must-watch players
By Joseph Herff
David Montgomery, Running Back
Just weeks ago on August 26th, the Bears had a major injury scare. David Montgomery suffered a non-contact injury to his leg and seemed to be in pain and couldn’t walk on it. This sent fans into a frenzy wondering what happens if he’s out for the season. Would they rely on Cordarrelle Patterson, Ryan Nall, Tarik Cohen, or Artavis Pierce? Or would they go after a veteran free agent?
Luckily, he just strained his groin. No knee damage. No surgery. Just a few weeks for recovery.
It seems though that Montgomery is the man this week against the Lions as it looks like he is the only back on the roster that can handle a full workload. If he plays, he has a low-risk of reinjury, but the risk is still there.
Outside of the injury concerns, eyes will be on Montgomery to bounce back after he played below expectations last season. After only rushing for 889 yards on 242 carries, fans and analysts both expected more out of the rookie. This season, he needs to come out hot against the Lions to show he’s the guy we all expected him to be.
