Chicago Bears: 4 Bold predictions for Week 1 vs Detroit Lions
The Detroit Lions will gain less than 300 yards on offense
Looking back at the Detroit Lions offense last year, it was pretty lethal to start the season. Matthew Stafford was off to a great start statistically and was having one of his more efficient seasons. He only started eight games but threw 19 touchdowns. To put that in perspective, Stafford started all 16 games in 2018 and only found the end zone 21 times through the air. A back injury derailed the season though and the Lions went 0-8 the rest of the year.
With Stafford under center, the Lions gained less than 300 yards of total offense twice last season. Granted, one of those games they gained 299. Beyond those two games, only three other times was the team short of that 300 total yard mark.
While playing the Chicago Bears last season, the Lions gained 357 yards in the first meeting. The Lions followed that up in the second meeting on Thanksgiving Day by gaining 364 total offensive yards. This bold prediction would be some feat seeing how I already mentioned my fear of the defense starting out flat due to a strange offseason and lack of crowd presence. However, with no Kenny Golladay, a banged-up running back group and a fired-up Bears defense, it’s possible.
