Khalil Mack vs. Detroit Offense
When looking at the biggest matchups that we’ll see in Chicago vs. Detroit, I started to try and investigate who had the unfortunate responsibility of blocking this incredible talent. But the more that I considered this, the more I realized that blocking Khalil Mack is not a one-man job. It’s not a two-man job either. In fact, it’s not even a three-man job. Keeping Mack away from Matthew Stafford takes an effort from everybody on this team, including Matthew Stafford himself.
Mack can line up on either side of the ball. If he’s not succeeding on one side, they’ll simply move him to the other. So every single player on this Detroit team has to gameplay for Mack. With the recent addition of Robert Quinn, the door might open up for Mack to sneak his way into the backfield, where he has spent plenty of time since joining Chicago.
Defending against Khalil Mack means allowing somebody else more freedom when rushing the quarterback, so Matt Patricia will have to figure out a way to keep his quarterback safe after what was essentially a year off from his terror in 2019.
