Allen Robinson deserves a certain contract extension from the Chicago Bears

The Chicago Bears have had their first in house drama for the first time in a long time. The last major in house drama that lasted longer than a week would have been back in the Brandon Marshall days. Allen Robinson wants a new contract and he wants it now.

Luckily for us, Robinson does seem to want to stay a Chicago Bear despite many fans thinking Mitch Trubisky and quarterback issues are the problem. Rumor has it that Allen Robinson intends to get a longer-term deal at around $18 million a year.

I wrote earlier that I couldn’t pay Robinson $20 million a year if I were in charge. I would most definitely pay him $18 million. The front office views Robinson in the Cooper Kupp range, which is around $16 million a season. To me as long as both sides agree, paying Robinson around $17 million should easily be on the table. If the Chicago Bears want to lock him down, I will do it over five years. Roughly paying him $85 million and toss in some incentives.

Can Allen Robinson become the best Chicago Bears receiver in history?

If Allen Robinson wants to become the best receiver in Chicago Bears history, he really only needs about three more dominant years. The leading yardage receiver is Johnny Morris with 5,059 yards. Ken Kavanaugh leads with 50 touchdown receptions. Both players played in the ’50s era.

The most recent players known as top Chicago Bear receivers would be Cutis Conway, Marty Booker, Brandon Marshall, and Alshon Jeffery. Robinson is only 27 years old and is entering his prime ages of dominance.

If the Chicago Bears locked up Allen Robinson for five more years he would enter that last year at 32 years old. He would also only need to average a bit over 600 yards a season over those five years to put his name up in the top ranks. We fans would like to see a lot more production from the number one receiver.

If Robinson took care of his body he could easily do what Larry Fitzgerald is doing. Fitgerald last 1000 yard season was at age 34. With sshotty quarterback play Fitz has still accounted for over 700 yards the past two season. If the Chicago Bears are arguing over $2 million, they need to just bit the bullet and lock the kid in.
