The Chicago Bears could add a former NFC North running back in Theo Riddick
How about bringing in a different experienced running back that really has the ability to be a receiving threat? Theo Riddick was a version of Tarik Cohen before there was a Tarik Cohen. He missed all of 2019, but his prior four seasons he saw targets of 74, 71, 67 and 99. Over his seven-year career, Riddick has 14 receiving touchdowns.
Riddick, similar to Cohen, does not see many carries out of the backfield though. He only has five rushing touchdowns in his career and has never had more than 92 carries in a season. In comparison to Cohen who has never seen more than 99 carries in a season but has seen targets of 71, 91 and 104.
Riddick is currently on the Las Vegas Raiders practice squad but was not protected by the Raiders. Riddick may not be familiar with the Chicago Bears offense like Spencer Ware is, but the Bears are familiar with Riddick. The team should have plenty of film and first-hand knowledge of how Riddick plays the game since he has played his entire career in Detroit before this season. That is two games a year for four seasons under the Ryan Pace era and one season with Matt Nagy here.
Riddick is up there in age at 29 years old, but the team only needs him for the rest of this season. Give him a cheap, one-year deal while he gets the opportunity to prove he is not done with his career.
Final Thoughts:
Honestly, I am okay with the Chicago Bears not signing someone. The way Cordarelle Patterson has been used out of the backfield this season has been great. No longer do teams just know he is getting the ball if in the backfield. The team is even using him during play-action at times. My assumption is they promote Artavis Pierce or Riley Ridley to help soften the blow of losing Cohen.
