James Daniels, Offensive Guard

In both Weeks 1 and 2, the Bears offensive line looked powerful and nearly unstoppable in the run game. The Lions and Giants had no answers for the Bears’ rushing attack and that is thanks in large part to James Daniels living up to his draft pick.

Daniels was brought in for his age and athleticism for this offensive line. The zone scheme fit him perfectly because of his ability to move off the line and get to his zone to block. Daniels has excelled greatly as that this season and has been nearly unstoppable. During the first two weeks of the season, Daniels was the teams’ highest-graded run blocker according to PFF.

Last season, Daniels struggled when he was initially the center before moving back to guard. The line significantly improved when he made the switch back, but he still wasn’t doing great. His abilities weren’t used correctly in the scheme last year.

Now, he is being used in this outside zone that allows him to show off what he is great at and maul defenders opening up holes for David Montgomery. Even some NFL analysts have taken notice of how he is playing.
